speaker john boehner promises to push reforms to the entitlement programs that are driving the country more and more into debt. cuts his colleagues wanted to see more of in this bill. >> the senate and president failed to meet their own stated obligations, which was to bring us a balanced bill. >> one of the next big battles revolves around the debt ceiling, making sure the u.s. has enough to pay its bills. you can get used to saying "debt ceiling' now. >> talk about the split in the republican party. >> john boehner voted eric cantor voted no, as did about 181 other republicans.

85 voted yes. you see the split. >> hallie jackson, thank you, hallie. >> police are investigating two new year's days shooting. what happened last night on caroline street -- one happened last night on caroline street. no other details available. police are investigating a separate shooting in northwest baltimore that happened near druid hill avenue. there were reports of a man suffering a gunshot wound to the shoulder. no word on a suspect. >> police say a party at a hotel prompted three separate calls on

new year's day. jennifer franciotti is live with the details. what do police say it went wrong? >> it looked like too few security guards. there were three separate calls for a stabbing, a fight, and some kind of drug overdose. partygoers reported having a great time at the atrium. there were about 1000 people at this event. it was put on by several local party promoters. not everybody rang in 2013 peacefully. there was a call about a fight. less than 10 minutes after that, someone called paramedics about a drug overdose. about an hour after that, a man was stabbed. police do not know if these incidents were connected. or if it even happened at this party or somewhere else in the hotel. some did not notice the repeated police presence. they did have their own security

in place but -- >> there were security guards at the location. too many people for them. we were called in. we were able to diffuse the situation. there were no arrests for disorderly conduct. >> baltimore county police are still investigating. jennifer franciotti, wbal-tv 11 news. crash.w year's day this happened at greenspring avenue at the inner loop of the beltway. he returned to his car and was rear ended by another vehicle. >> the first same-sex marriage legally wed after the new same- sex law went into effect. other couples went the more traditional route to tie the knot.

today. 6:12. there is a live look at the ravens logo somewhere around downtown. nearly 300 small logos are around the city of baltimore. you have a chance to win two tickets to sunday's game. we are starting off with a lot of clouds. and though pressure system down to the south. there were some flurries around baltimore early on an even ocean city reported its first snowflakes of the season. now everything is moving off the coast. the clouds will linger early on as high pressure builds in the. we're expecting a quiet weather. the trend stays the same into

the seven-day forecast. we will have little precipitation expected and temperatures flat running into the next couple of days. they will be fought lining close to normal. look at the temperature in kansas city, 11 degrees. denver dropping into the teens. the cold air will not move over the mountains. we will stay close to normal. 33 at the airport. 26 in parkton. oakland and frostburg have dropped into the teens. the wind is light across the metro area. we will not see any major warmup. temperatures will get close to the normal mark of 42.

beltway, 63. 65 on the southbound harrisburg expressway. picking up just a bit prior to the beltway. southbound from coldspring lane down towards 28th street on the j.f.x., 50 miles per hour. moving well on the north side at harford road. 57 on 95 down to the 895 split. seven minutes through that stretch. it is the starting to build at the fort mchenry tunnel. no official delay to talk of. that is the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> pants of the 90's government will file a lawsuit against the ncaa. he intends to sue over sanctions imposed on penn state university.

the university agreed to a $60 million fine. state lawmakers raised questions to that money being spent outside the state of pennsylvania. police say a photographer attended to take a picture of justin bieber was hit by another car and killed last night. the photographer was following the car before troopers pulled it over for a traffic stop. he was asked to back away from the stop. justin bieber wasn't even in the car. police officers will be stationed in the new jersey district. this comes weeks after the shooting in newtown, connecticut. they say this will be the new norm. that brings us to our water cooler question of the day. do you think having an armed

until 10:00 p.m. for morning our debates. >> lawmakers left capitol hill after finally avoiding the fiscal cliff. >> at some point you strike a balance. >> 257 democrats and republicans voting for a bill to keep the alternative minimum tax from hitting working families and prevent tax hikes for 98% of americans. tax rates will go up for couples making more than $450,000. democrats gave in on that. republicans won a victory -- the estate tax threshold is over $5 million. >> tax relief has been achieved. now is the time for the president to work with congress to address the government overspending. >> and the debt ceiling. before leaving for a whole lot president obama urged

this hotel hosted a new year's eve party. >> they did it at a hotel so you can get a room and drink and not worry about driving home. none of that. do you know what i'm saying? they did a good job of putting this together. >> about 1000 people in the atrium. >> a lot of different promoters getting together to throw a party. we are still here. we are about to enjoy the rest of our new year's. >> police responded to a call about a fight here. less than 10 minutes later, someone called paramedics about a drug overdose. an hour later, a man was stabbed. investigators are not sure if the incidents are related. some did not notice the increased police presence. >> just because the police were
